We are stoked to be able to bring you the Swindon debut of the incredible Ophelia's Beard!Female fronted folk with a bite - Ophelia’s Beard is a genre fluid songwriter that combines the folk roots of her Devon upbringing with an injection of modern angst and passion. By grounding her songs with the stereotypes of the genre, and sparking a modern twist within, Ophelia creates familiarity in songs you’ve never heard before. New wave folk, with a hint of punk, she fits somewhere between traditional rock and folk set ups, proving banjo has a place in the modern scene.
Described as ‘a complete redefinition of the meaning of powerhouse vocals’ she fronts her band with a captivating ease supporting artists like Chloe Foy, Supalung and Jack Browning. Beard started its festival career at Between the Trees dubbed a ‘wild card’ by the organisers but had such a good reception that, two years on, they’ve moved from openers to headliners. Her debut single 'Red Sea' has been said to 'embody the boundless energy the band has become so hyped for'.
Support comes from Teorstan, an artist who dazzled at his SoP debut at The Pulpit earlier this year.
Teorstan is songwriter, singer and guitarist Tom Martin. Named after the Anglo-Saxon word for the river that winds through Martin's hometown, Teorstan's songs reflect the storytelling of folk music, weaving stories that run like the channels of that same river, while thematically addressing the modern age. Tying together raconteurs like Bruce Springsteen and the quieter, poetic alternative folk of Sufjan Stevens and Bon Iver, the aim is to mesmerise and affect the listener through narratives that illustrate modern life. Martin's work as a writer with WREN has been played on BBC Radio 1 & BBC Radio 6 Music, and his feature with alternative rap artist and producer NTHN has amassed over a million streams on Spotify.
Live music from 8.30pm. Entry is free but please do bring cash for the artists tip-jar to show appreciation and to support live music.
