My favorite time of the year has arrived!! Time for the Operation Christmas Child Packing Party!!
What is Operation Christmas Child?
Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse. Their mission is to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to children in need all over the world. Shoebox gifts that are packed with: school supplies, hygienic items, small toys, and clothing are sent to more than 170 countries worldwide. A lot of times it is the first gift the child has ever received.
The goal is to make 500-600 boxes!
With the help of my incredibly generous friends, I collect items for the boxes year round. I will be bringing all the items to share and let people pack.
Lots of hands are needed to: unload the truck, set up, pack boxes, gather trash, organize, direct traffic, move boxes, clean up, etc. I will be sharing a SignUp Genius soon to make sure we have enough help at the beginning and end when heavy lifting is necessary.
If you want to bring something, items that would be good to bring are BRAND NEW: small toys, school supplies, markers, hygiene items, wash cloths, hair accessories, jewelry, craft kits, socks, underwear, clothing, etc. ages 2-14
Items NOT allowed are: anything used, anything liquid (bubbles, mouthwash, shampoo, lotion, toothpaste), bar soap, war related items (army men or any type of gun toy), candy, Pokemon, Harry Potter, medicines, glass, or plant seeds.
How does the Packing Party work?
1. Gather at the Packing Party location at 9:45am on Saturday, November 7th. Bring the items you’d like to use or share, but there will be several tables with everything I have collected all year and you are free to use. (I will post more information on what is specifically needed soon)
2. Choose what kind of box you want to build.
a. Girl or Boy
b. Select an age group: 2-4, 5-9, 10-14
3. Choose age appropriate items to fill the box, they should be sorted fairly well.
4. Fill out an information sheet for each of your boxes and put a picture of you/your family inside. (I will ask for photos the week before if you want me to print them for you) I have read that the photo of who it is from is really loved by the recipient.
5. Take your completed box to the “done” section where they will make sure it’s properly marked and rubber banded. Then go get another one until we are finished. 😊
6. We will start cleaning up and getting a final count around 12ish? Last event we were done far earlier than projected because so many people came to help. Then we will pray over the boxes and the children who will receive them. 🙏🏼
