An opera evening to share with the worldOn 6 November Exeter will take part in an international cultural
experience by offering a free screening of Robinson Crusoé, an opera
by Jacques Offenbach produced by the Opéra de Rennes.
Led by Rennes Métropole, this initiative brings together participating
municipalities and their partner and twin cities to share, across borders, the same moment of culture and conviviality.
This year, 17 cities across 13 countries will take part in this collective
adventure. Although the screenings will not all take place at exactly
the same time because of time differences, they are part of the same shared momentum: enjoying a work together, building links between territories and making opera accessible to as many people as possible.
This free screening is open to everyone. No prior knowledge of opera
is required: everyone is invited to discover the performance in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
Practical information:
Date: 6 November 2026
Time: 5:30 pm – 8.00 pm
Venue: Campus Cinema, University of Exeter,
Devonshire House, Stocker Road, Exeter EX4 4PZ
An opera that travels
Thanks to the municipalities of Rennes Métropole and their partner
and twin cities, including Exeter, Robinson Crusoe crosses borders to reach new audiences.
One shared emotion, several countries
Each city takes part in the same cultural event while adapting it to
its local context. Because of time differences, screenings may take place on different dates or at different times depending on the country. Nevertheless, they are all part of the same international momentum.
Culture as a link between territories
This initiative illustrates the commitment of Rennes Métropole and
its partners to bringing international cooperation to life through a
concrete, inclusive and unifying project accessible to everyone.
