About this Event
Blending vocal performance, sound design, fashion, scenography, and video art, Everything Moist Seems Alive translates the sounds of moving and falling water into a modern, immersive myth. Inspired by Astrida Neimanis’ concept of hydrofeminism, the project challenges the illusion of human autonomy and self-containment.
Rather than closed-off fortresses, our bodies are treated as permeable, leaking ecosystems inextricably connected to the planetary water cycle. In the shared economy of moisture, water acts as the ultimate equalizer, dissolving social hierarchies and reminding us that we don't just inhabit our biotope; we are our biotope.
Following the vocal previews at the Dutch National Opera & Ballet's Studio Boekman, the complete performative installation now comes to life at MU Hybrid Art House, Frieda Gustavs’ layered vocal libretto, performed live by a three-part choir, acts as the work’s ritual motor, actively summoning fluid systems and blurring the boundaries between human, moisture, and resonance. These choral chants and frequencies directly drive the physical scenography: an interconnected landscape of water machines, resonant basins, and pulsing pipelines that channel, mist, and circulate water in real time. Moving beyond sound alone, the voices, performers, and visitors ignite the mechanical ecosystem, into one living, shared waterbody.
