Stand Guard Over the Solitude of the Other, prima expoziție personală a lui Lari Rafailă, poartă ca titlu o frază din corespondența lui Rainer Maria Rilke (antologia „Rilke on Love and Other Difficulties: Translations and Considerations”, 1975). În scrierile sale de la începutul anilor 1900, către artista Paula Modersohn-Becker, Rilke vede în solitudine condiția oricărei vieți interioare. Sarcina cea mai înaltă a unei legături dintre doi oameni este, pentru el, ca fiecare să vegheze asupra solitudinii celuilalt. Expoziția ne așază, la rândul nostru, în poziția celui care veghează și face din această atenție o formă de apropiere.
Există imagini pe care avem impresia că ni le amintim, deși nu le-am trăit niciodată, iar picturile lui Rafailă aparțin acestei categorii. Ele operează într-un registru liminal, între oniric și real, cu logica specifică visului: suntem siguri de ceea ce vedem și, în același timp, cuprinși de incertitudine.
„Contradicțiile subtile sunt un element fundamental în imaginile pe care le construiesc: scene comune cu personaje distanțate, contraste cromatice puternice între cald și rece, senzații familiare, dar greu de definit, cadre intime și strânse care omit o mare parte din context, atmosfere calme care păstrează în același timp o anumită tensiune.” - Lari Rafailă
Reunite în spațiul galeriei, lucrările configurează o succesiune de solitudini alăturate și propun o etică a privirii întemeiată pe încredere și pe disponibilitatea de a-l conține pe celălalt.

Stand Guard Over the Solitude of the Other, Lari Rafailă's first solo exhibition, takes its title from a phrase in the correspondence of Rainer Maria Rilke (the anthology “Rilke on Love and Other Difficulties: Translations and Considerations”, 1975). In his writings from the early 1900s to the painter Paula Modersohn-Becker, Rilke sees solitude as the condition of any inner life. For him, the highest task of a bond between two people is that each should stand guard over the solitude of the other. The exhibition places us, in turn, in the position of the one who keeps watch, and makes of this attention a form of closeness.
There are images we feel we remember although we never lived them, and Rafailă's paintings belong to this category. They work in a liminal register, between the oneiric and the real, with the logic of dreams: we are sure of what we see and, at the same time, seized by uncertainty.

Brought together in the gallery, the works form a sequence of solitudes set side by side and propose an ethics of looking founded on trust and on the willingness to hold the other.
