YAY! It's time for Open House Chicago!Open House Chicago is a yearly weekend event where dozens and dozens of locations all over Chicago (and sometimes in the collar suburbs) open up their doors for tours and education, and this year, we're turning it into a scooter ride!
This is a completely free event.
- We'll start at Smashed Plastic Record Pressing, which opens at 10am for tours. From there, we will ride to:
- Right Bee Cider
- Mobile Makers
- Central Park Theater
- Sear Nichols Tower
- Sunken Gardens (we will stop here for a picnic, or at nearby Douglass Park)
- Our Lady of Sorrows Basilica (if time allows)
- Four Star Mushrooms
- St Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral
- Ignite Glass Studio (bring some to wrap up anything you want to take home!)
- Then we will end at Field Notes, because no Open House Chicago is complete without an opportunity to bother Bryan.
More information about the ride stops can be found here: https://openhousechicago.org/sites
(Some locations may be cut if needed for time. The times we arrive at or leave any given stop will be dependent upon how quickly the group gets through the preceding stops.)
*Who can ride?
This ride is 50cc friendly, all ages (where allowed), and open to everyone who can maintain at least a speed of 35mph. (If any pets are riding with you, please note that you likely won't be allowed in most of the stops.)
*How should I prepare?
- Wear your safety gear ****Helmets are mandatory for all riders and (human) passengers, no exceptions****
- Fuel up beforehand.
- Dress appropriately for the weather - this is a rain or shine ride (within reason - cold, yes; drizzle, probably; wind, most likely; absolutely pouring down rain, nope)
- Pack a lunch. Feel free to bring things to share, but that's not necessary. (If you are unable to bring food or drink for yourself, for any reason - lack of funds, lack of storage on your bike, etc - please reach out to Renee and we'll make sure you're taken care of.) If you don't prepare in advance, there may be restaurants in the area where you can get food, but that will be on you to figure out.
- Some of the stops may have things for purchase, especially Ignite Glass Studio, so have something to store your purchases in and/or wrap them up in for safe keeping.
*How long is the ride?
The ride itself will total about 14 miles from start to finish, but this is an all-day event, expected to go from 10am to 5pm!
*Route:

Exact route is subject to change.
(Field Notes isn't on here because Google Maps limits the stops, but it's not far from the last stop listed.)
*Ride Team and Details:
This event is organized by Derek and Renee.
In addition to the ride lead, we will have a dedicated sweep on comms (assuming we can get them to work), but no chase vehicle. We will likely not have corner markers for this ride.
In the event of a breakdown, please have a buddy arranged for beforehand who can assist you.
The ride will only stop in the event of a medical emergency.
