About this Event
This event is sponsored by Texas Sports Academy and is free to attend, but you must RSVP.
Most parents would agree that a child should learn how to swim. The coaches at Gym Jitsu ask the question: Why is knowing how to handle yourself any less important?
Whether you’re already immersed in martial arts, or it’s totally unfamiliar to you, this event is for students ages 7 and up at every experience level. The coaches will explain what judo, jujitsu, muay thai, and karate actually are. They will run demonstrations and give kids a chance to get on the mat and try it themselves.
What Gym Jitsu teaches underneath it all is how to stay calm and solve a hard problem while it is happening. A child learns to work through something difficult, gets a little better at it, and feels that. Confidence does not come from a new belt every few months. It comes from being genuinely more capable than you were, and kids can tell the difference.
It is also a sport that keeps going. There is no season and no field to book. It is indoors and it runs year round. Kids who stay with it can start competing within a few months, and the skills hold up for decades.
Parents are welcome to stay and watch the entire time and ask the coaches anything. Nobody expects you to know the etiquette or the vocabulary, and there is no wrong question.
In their own words, Gym Jitsu is trying to make better people. They see martial arts as a way to get there, not the only way. Come see whether it fits your family.
