SANTA MONICA, CA — bG Gallery presents onodream, an exhibition bringing together original artworks, magazines, and exhibition catalogs from Louis Jacinto’s long-running artist-centered publishing and exhibition project. More than an archive, onodream is a living record of independent art-making, sustained conversation, and the restless exchange between the page, the screen, and the gallery.
Jacinto launched onodream magazine in 2011 with the guiding premise “One Artist. One Conversation.” Each issue offered an extended encounter with an artist, creating room for ideas, experiences, and processes to unfold beyond the compressed language of the conventional profile. The magazines became intimate documents of artistic practice and a platform for work that often exists outside the dominant currents of the art world.
That independent spirit is inseparable from Jacinto’s own background. Shaped by punk culture and its do-it-yourself ethic, he approached publishing as a form of direct action: make the platform, open the conversation, and build an audience through curiosity rather than permission. In onodream, that attitude meets a deep commitment to artists whose work is searching, unconventional, and resistant to easy categorization. The magazines tap into a counter-current of contemporary art—practices that move through the margins, challenge prevailing tastes, and insist on their own forms of visibility.
During the COVID-19 shutdown in 2020, Jacinto expanded the project into onodream Gallery, an online exhibition space. Its exhibitions unfolded over three months, introducing additional artworks as each show progressed and pairing the visual presentation with critical writing and a published catalog. This evolving format extended the magazine’s spirit of close engagement into the digital realm, allowing exhibitions to develop gradually and reach audiences beyond the limits of a physical gallery.
The bG Gallery exhibition brings these connected histories into a shared physical space. Featured artists include Anna Broome, Alan Joseph Marx, Benni Korzen, Lena Moross, O4, Leigh Salgado, Jean-Luc Sanhes, Maud Simmons, Linda Smith, and Simone Gad. Together, their works reflect the breadth of artistic voices that onodream has championed: distinct, exploratory, and unwilling to settle for the expected.
Displayed alongside the artworks, the magazines and catalogs form an integral part of the exhibition. They preserve artists’ conversations, document exhibitions, and reveal the networks of attention that sustain independent art. Visitors are invited to consider how an artwork shifts across different forms of encounter—reproduced on a page, presented on a screen, discussed in print, and experienced in person.
At the heart of onodream is a simple but consequential philosophy: art gains force through attention, and attention becomes meaningful when it is shared. The project treats publishing and exhibition-making not as secondary forms of documentation, but as creative acts in themselves—ways of building community, preserving dialogue, and making space for work that might otherwise remain unseen.
onodream is both exhibition and proposition: a reminder that art can still circulate through independent channels, that conversation can be a form of resistance, and that a magazine can become a gallery, an archive, and a meeting place.
