In this live demonstration, wedding photographer Susan Stripling will show how a wedding portrait session evolves when time is limited and creativity matters most. Starting with a simple bridal portrait against a black wall, Susan will build image after image without changing locations, proving that compelling photographs come from observation, light, and intention rather than elaborate setups.
As the session progresses, attendees will see how small adjustments in posing, composition, and lighting can transform a straightforward portrait into a diverse gallery of images. Along the way, Susan will share the decision-making process she uses at weddings when timelines are tight and every minute counts.
Whether you photograph weddings, portraits, or editorial work, this class will challenge you to think differently about the spaces you already have and help you create more with less.

Susan Stripling
Susan Stripling has been photographing weddings for twenty-five years, working primarily in New York City. She has photographed more than 775 weddings.
Her work has appeared in The New York Times, Martha Stewart Weddings, Town & Country, Inside Weddings, and Grace Ormonde Wedding Style. PDN named her one of the top ten wedding photographers in the world. She is a Grand Master of the Icon Awards and a proud Canon Explorer of Light.
Susan has taught for Photo Plus, WPPI, PPA, and CreativeLive, and founded The Wedding School, an education platform for wedding photographers.
Before photography, she studied theatre. She says she uses the degree every weekend.
