Explore the fundamentals of oil painting in a relaxed, guided, non-toxic studio environment! This class is open to all skill levels, from beginners who have never worked with oils to experienced artists looking to practice and develop their skills.
Each session will feature a new still-life arrangement provided by Chris. Students may complete a painting during a single session or continue developing a painting from photographs. Those who wish to continue working on the same still life can photograph the arrangement to use as a reference at home or during a future class.
Beginning artists will be guided through the complete painting process directly from the still life or from photograph. Instructions will include, composing, sketching, block-in, color mixing / matching, brushwork, layering, and finishing techniques. More experienced artists can work at their own pace while receiving individualized guidance and feedback from Chris.
This class uses a solvent-free, low-odor approach to oil painting, with no solvents or strong-smelling mediums required. Chris will show you how to use oil paint safely with easy clean-up.
Students may bring their own materials or choose the materials-provided option for an additional fee. Come for one session or continue developing your skills and artwork across multiple classes! Click to see Materials List or scroll below.
