About this Event
Sunday, November 22nd, 10am-5pm
Spend a full day diving into the skills that make any painting possible by understanding the building blocks of painting: value, form, color, and technique. Quickly grow your skill, understanding, and the beginnings of your own style through fun, simple, guided lessons. No matter your experience, you'll leave feeling inspired, capable, and ready to paint with oils.
This workshop contains 3 sessions' worth of lessons, laid out as a full day so you can really dive in, learn the background knowledge, and apply techniques while playing, experimenting, and covering a whole lot of canvas. Open to all levels of experience. Expect guided demos, personal feedback, and optional assignments to continue practicing at home.
Light and Form: Make studies of objects applying value scales to study how light falls over forms. Practice edges, blending, and clearly seeing lights and darks.
Color Theory and Mixing: Learn about the spectrum of colors and how to color match with ease. Color theory isn't scary or complicated; it's a recipe book we will map out! Finish with a still life that puts your skills together.
Expressive Style and Brushwork: How you apply your paint is the icing on the cake. Do you enjoy soft blends and realistic detail, or chunky brush strokes with bold energy? Work from the instructor-led floral demo, or bring in an artwork you'd like to learn from with individual guidance.
All supplies are included for use in class, and no prior experience is necessary! BYOB welcome!
Your paintings will still be wet when you leave, so prepare a space in your car to lay them flat, or bring a brown paper grocery bag to carry them home.
Location: Trade Oak Cliff, inside Tyler Station in Dallas. Enter 4 doors down from Oak Cliff Brewery.
Recommended for ages 14 and up. Minors must be accompanied by an adult with their own ticket.
No refunds or reschedules due to the one-time nature of each class. If you can't make it, you're welcome to gift your ticket to a friend. Just email [email protected] with the new student's info. You'll receive a reminder email the day before class.
