About the Event
This two-day event will bring together researchers, clinicians and data scientists, trainees along with public sector and industry partners from across Canada and beyond to explore the growing use of the OMOP Common Data Model and OHDSI in observational health research. Through international perspectives, Canadian implementation experiences, hands-on learning and opportunities for collaboration, participants will discover how OMOP and open-source tools can support research across institutions and jurisdictions, and enable the generation of reliable real-world evidence.

This is a unique opportunity to network with the Canadian OHDSI community, share your experiences, learn from international and Canadian leaders, and explore opportunities for collaboration.
About OHDSI Canada
OHDSI Canada is the Canadian chapter of the global Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics (OHDSI) collaborative, an open-science, multi-stakeholder network dedicated to generating reliable and reproducible evidence from health data. OHDSI Canada is building a pan-Canadian community around the OMOP Common Data Model and OHDSI's open-source tools to advance large-scale, reproducible, collaborative and efficient federated health data research on a national and global level. By supporting consistent data transformations, sharing expertise, and supporting multi-site studies, OHDSI Canada is helping to generate trustworthy real-world evidence to improve health outcomes.

Day 1 (Tuesday, Nov 17)

Track A: From Source Data to OMOP
Info: Explore the practical steps involved in transforming health data into OMOP through two workshops:
Morning: Vocabulary Mapping - Explore practical approaches to mapping Canadian clinical codes to the OMOP Standardized Vocabularies, including emerging AI-assisted approaches and hands-on comparison of mapping methods.
Afternoon: ETL Workshop Converting Real-World Canadian Clinical EHR Data to OMOP - Explore practical strategies for building and maintaining OMOP ETL pipelines, including incomplete mappings, source data dictionaries, evolving vocabularies, and sustainable approaches to improving mappings over time. Registrants will be asked to select one track.

Track B: From OMOP to Evidence
Info: Spend the day working through a real-world observational research use case using OMOP and OHDSI tools. Participants will work collaboratively through key stages of the study process, from defining a research question and developing phenotypes to building cohorts, running analyses and interpreting results. Registrants will be asked to select one track.

2026 OHDSI Canada Symposium
Info: Learn about:
the evolution of OHDSI, the OMOP Common Data Model, and the growth of an international open-science community dedicated to generating reliable real-world evidence;
the establishment and growth of OHDSI Canada, key milestones since the inaugural OMOP Engagement Event in 2025, and the goals for the community moving forward;
Canadian research underway using OMOP as well as progress implementing OMOP, including experiences and lessons learned;
system transformation of EMR data into the OMOP CDM;
how medical imaging data can be incorporated into OMOP to support multimodal observational research; and,
governance, privacy, security and ethics challenges involved in conducting multi-institutional and federated health data research in Canada, with a focus on the implications for OMOP-based research and network studies.
