Before either army reached Pennsylvania, the rolling countryside of Loudon County, Virginia witnessed Union and Confederate Cavalry fight a series of sharp engagements at Aldie, Middleburg and Upperville in June of 1863.
When we think of the Gettysburg Campaign, we might picture Little Round Top, Pickett's Charge, or Cemetery Ridge, yet these battles in Virginia were the true opening salvos on the road to Gettysburg.
Aaron Siever grew up in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley. In 2016, he started his youtube channel, Aaron's Civil War Travels, which now has over 200 videos at sites from Virginia to California. Aaron graduated from Liberty University with bachelor's degrees in history and criminal justice after 15 years in law enforcement. Aaron also received a certificate in the American Civil War and Reconstruction from Columbia University online. Aaron joined the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation where he maintained the Valley's battlefields and conducted tours as a Park Ranger for 3 years before starting Aaron's Civil War Travels, LLC. Aaron belongs to the Appomattox-Petersburg Preservation Society as part of the Officers Corps and serves as secretary for the organization, as well as serving as member and Board Secretary for Society for Women and the Civil War.
