About this Event
Join Florida Field Club for a conservation day at Wekiwa Springs State Park, in partnership with Seminole County SERV!
We’ll begin our day working alongside Seminole County SERV to help remove invasive plants that can crowd out Florida’s native species and change the habitats local wildlife depend on. Kids will get an up close look at what invasive species are in comparison to native plants and why managing them matters.
After our work is done, we’ll trade our work gloves for paddles and head out on the water for a guided kayak tour of the Wekiwa River ecosystem. From the water, we’ll explore the springs and river, look for native wildlife, and see firsthand the habitat we just helped protect.
Along the way, we’ll learn more about the Wekiva Basin, its wildlife, native plants, waterways, and the conservation work happening to keep this special part of Central Florida wild.
OUR MISSION
- Learn about invasive and native Florida species
2. Remove invasive plants and help protect native habitat
3. Explore the Wekiwa River by kayak
4. Give kids a real opportunity to participate in conservation
Florida Field Club Field Missions are designed to give kids real opportunities to explore Florida while contributing to the places they’re learning about. We want children to leave knowing that protecting Florida isn't something reserved for scientists, park rangers, or adults.
These activities are aimed at kids 5-12 but open to all curious kids!
