October District 1 Breakfast: An Awe WalkThis month, District 1 Breakfast is hitting the streets!
Join Council Member Joseph Shepard, Wichita Independent Neighborhoods, and Wichita Habitat for Humanity for a special community breakfast and Awe Walk through Opportunity Drive and surrounding neighborhoods in 67214.
What is an Awe Walk?
An Awe Walk is an intentional walk where we slow down, look around, and notice the beauty, people, places, and possibilities that surround us.
Too often, neighborhoods are defined by what they lack or what needs to be fixed. An Awe Walk invites us to look differently:
What is beautiful here? What is working? What opportunities already exist? And what could be possible if we invested in them?
As we walk together, we'll explore several District 1 neighborhoods and stop at Rock the Block Piatt to see the partnership between the City of Wichita, Wichita Habitat for Humanity, residents, volunteers, and community partners in action.
We'll then gather at Wichita Habitat for Humanity for breakfast and conversation. A longtime neighborhood resident will share her experience in the community, what she wants others to know, and what she hopes for its future.
We'll reflect on what we saw and heard, including the beauty, challenges, opportunities, and stories that can sometimes be overlooked.
Most importantly, we'll conclude with a call to action: What can we do with what we've seen and heard?
Because stronger neighborhoods are built when residents, nonprofits, businesses, and government walk together, listen, recognize possibility, and take action.
