About this Event

An Evening with Juana Meneses, Ocean Art x Science Artist in Residence

What happens when an artist steps into the world of marine science? Join artist Juana Meneses and the Robert K. Johnson Center for an evening of art, conversation, and connection to the ocean.

Juana is a Miami-based artist and art educator whose work brings art and science into dialogue, using visual storytelling, local landscapes, and collective memory through drawing, printmaking, artists' books, and participatory audience engagement. Selected grants and fellowships, including an Ellie Teacher Travel Grant from Oolite Arts, a WaveMaker Grant from the Cannonball Foundation, and a Durfee Grant, have supported her work. She is a repeat presenter at the National Art Educator Association, sharing her work on the intersection of art and science.

As the first Ocean Art x Science Artist in Residence, a partnership between the Center and the University of Miami’s Department of Art and Art History, Juana spent time with researchers at the Rosenstiel School. She sketched corals in restoration labs, joined scientists in the field, explored the school’s archives, and invited community members to share their own memories of the ocean.

This evening shares what came out of that experience: new work inspired by the people, places, and research she encountered along the way.
