OBSCURE: An Immersive Fashion & Cultural Experience
Step beyond the spectacle and enter OBSCURE, an immersive fashion experience exploring the complex history of how Black bodies, identities, creativity, and culture have been displayed, consumed, and reinterpreted throughout history.
Guests will move through an environment designed to blur the line between exhibition, fashion, entertainment, and storytelling. Throughout the experience, discover the stories of historical figures whose contributions and identities were often reduced to spectacle, while experiencing contemporary fashion and creative interpretations inspired by their legacies.
THE EXPERIENCE INCLUDES:
✦ Immersive Fashion Experience — Contemporary fashion, styling, and visual storytelling inspired by the histories explored throughout OBSCURE.
✦ The OBSCURE Maze — Enter an intimate, interactive environment where five stories unfold through curated spaces, sound, visuals, objects, and narration.
✦ Dance Floor — Move through the night with music, energy, and an open dance floor designed to keep the experience alive beyond the installations.
✦ Game Room — Step away from the main experience and into a playful environment featuring games, social interaction, and unexpected moments throughout the evening.
✦ Circus Performers — Encounter live circus performers throughout the evening, including a fire breather and stilt walker, bringing movement, spectacle, and unexpected moments into the OBSCURE experience.
✦ Historical Storytelling — Encounter the lives and legacies of individuals including Saartjie Baartman, Donyale Luna, the Muse Brothers, Big Mama Thornton, Florence Ballard, Little Richard, Freddie Washington, Ota Benga, and members of the Funk Brothers.
✦ Interactive Installations — Engage with installations designed to examine visibility, value, consumption, and the ways people have historically been turned into spectacles.
✦ Music & Entertainment — Curated sounds and live entertainment will carry guests through the experience, creating an atmosphere that connects the past to contemporary culture.
