Please Read: This is a three-part series, not three individual workshops. The sessions build on one another and are designed around a small, collaborative group, so each participant becomes an important part of the process! By signing up, you are committing to attending all three sessions. If you think you may have a conflict with one of the dates, please email Ari instead to join the waitlist/email list and wait until next time. Depending on sign-up, occasional drop-ins may be offered on a case-by-case basis.
Registration includes all three sessions:

Registration is free, with a suggested up-to $75 donation (sliding scale, please use pay-what-you-can if needed) toward materials + facilitation for the full three-session series, collected at the workshop.

Welcome to the first “multi-session” (aka class) version of The (Ari) Always Human Research Group! In this series, we will use the concept of “affordances” (action possibilities) to explore the world of everyday objects. Over the course of three sessions, you will build a world around selected objects.
Session 1: We’ll begin by mapping their action possibilities and decoding their material intelligence.
Session 2: You’ll write narratives, have conversations, and speak from THEIR perspective, finding ways of “becoming” your object.
Session 3: We’ll bring the objects together, building group sculptures and analyzing the narratives and relationships that emerge.
Throughout this process, you will rapidly move between ideating, mapping, writing, acting, moving, making, and analyzing—using your body as a tool to decode the objects around you.

What to bring/wear: Ari will have writing materials and everything necessary for the workshop. While we aren't dancing, we will be doing movement warm-ups and moving from sitting to standing frequently. We will be shooting documentation of the workshop too! You will also be asked to bring objects & Ari will follow-up with you about that in an email.
Number of attendees: This series is capped at 8. If you think you may not be able to attend, do not sign-up. Please let Ari know asap if there are any issues.
Accessibility Note: We will be moving & sitting on the ground for writing & discussion. There are cushions for sitting, but please let Ari know if you need a chair. The space is up a set of stairs and does not have an elevator. Please email Ari with any notes/concerns.
Documentation: You will be given releases for images so that Ari may include images in future research materials. If you do not wish to be included in that, you can let them know.
Arrival: You will be able to get in the space 10 mintues before.
