About this Event

WHY Transportation Safety?

Every day, 120 people are killed on US roadways, and over 14,000 suffer life-altering injuries. Every crash destroys families, and tears at the fabric of our communities. Crashes are preventable. These are not "accidents” — and the problems that cause them have proven solutions. No death or life-altering injury in a traffic crash is acceptable.

(FSS) confronts the preventable epidemic of traffic violence by advocating for life-saving changes and providing support to those who have been impacted by crashes. FSS uses a data-driven approach focused on “upstream” policy solutions proven to have the greatest impact. As a result, anti-speeding technology has helped cities across the US and countries abroad reduce roadway deaths and serious injuries.

is helping to recruit volunteers and civic hackers to participate in this hackathon!

Hacking Deliverables:

Understand ISA Devices and how it's deployed for Super Speeders.

The Hackathon consists of creating a proof of concept (PoC) for an eventually bigger system of data management for the installation of devices for individuals / vehicles that incur in speeding violations. This PoC will be used to demonstrate the viability of the policy implementation.

The complete system should eventually account for several stakeholders in different stages of the data management and alert system as shown in the following flowchart:

Data Management Design:

  • Design ETL and pipeline
  • Data structure (is it general enough in case the courts have missing variables?)
  • Consider Privacy

Data input/upload system for stake-holders (e.g. courts, DMV, etc)

  • Alert management (e.g. which alerts have been sent, a way to mark follow-ups)

Dashboard and alert system for DMV:

  • Design DMV dashboard - with success metrics, alerts
  • indicates speeders warning system
  • ability to alert to send to people who cross the 10 threshold

How to register for Hackathon:

1) Go ahead and register here on Eventbrite.

2) Register as a volunteer on the DSSG Google Form.
