Information
The NSO celebrates the centennial of Mstislav Rostropovich, its fourth Music Director and one of the most celebrated cellists and conductors of the 20th century. Gianandrea Noseda leads two powerful works connected to Rostropovichs musical legacy: Weinbergs Cello Concerto, a rediscovered masterpiece written for Rostropovich and performed by acclaimed cellist Sol Gabetta; along with Shostakovichs monumental Symphony No. 10. Written in the aftermath of Stalins death, Shostakovichs Tenth is charged with thunderous tension and pure catharsis. Together, these works illuminate the Russian musical tradition Rostropovich championed and the extraordinary legacy he left behind.
