Bring a chair or two &Ty
I'd love to host our group for an afternoon of good food, good friends, and a little backyard inspiration. It's been too long since I've seen some of you!
🥗 Potluck Dinner
Please bring a dish to share, preferably something healthy. If you've recently harvested anything from your own garden, we'd love to see (and taste!) it.
RSVP and let me know what dish you're bringing so we get a good variety.
🥤 Drinks: BYOD
Please bring your own drinks. We'll have water and I'll have a pot of coffee on.
💧 About Our Water & Garden
Our backyard is a small food forest full of little edibles. We collect rainwater from the heavens in two rain barrels and filter it for drinking using Sawyer filters and activated charcoal. My husband, Geoff, who holds a doctorate in marine biology, can explain how it all works. He set up a smaller system using just buckets in Guatemala last April!
Geoff also has a small aquaponics system on our back porch, and he now teaches homeschoolers in Lee and Collier County. His courses include:
• BBBBB: Birds, Bees, Bugs, Butterflies, and Beyond
• Backyard Aquaponics
• Rain Barrel & Rain Bucket Systems
• Marine Biology ages 7 -14
🌱 A Couple of Garden Tips to Chat About
• Over the years I've learned that many plants will grow from a simple stick cutting pushed right into the ground, with no rooting hormone needed.
• Green papaya is being talked about like a new trend, but it's been used for generations in cultures around the world. It's a great substitute for potato, zucchini, or squash.
🚗 Parking
Park on the road, on the grass, or in the gravel driveway, wherever works for you.
I look forward to hosting and catching up with everyone. See you on the 15th! 💚
