We're excited to announce our November Book Club meeting, taking place in the Farmhouse Visitor Center on Wednesday, December 2nd from 6:30-7:30PM! The Book we've selected for this month is Into the Thaw: Witnessing Wonder Amid the Arctic Climate Crisis by Jon Waterman.Forty years ago, park Ranger Jon Waterman traveled the Alaskan Arctic for the first time, astounded by the extreme landscape and rich diversity of wildlife as he paddled and bushwhacked his way to the Noatak headwaters. After a 30 year absence, he returns to the Arctic with his son, and is shocked and troubled to witness an environment profoundly changed. In Into the Thaw, Waterman chronicles the rapidly warming Arctic, from thermokarsts to sea ice loss to unprecedented impacts on Inuit and Inupiat villages. Despite the evident crisis, Waterman seeks to portray a narrative of hope, sharing inspiring stories and jaw-dropping photography from the vast and vanishing frontier.
Join us for an informative and easygoing discussion about the book! Refreshments will be provided. We hope to see you there!
