Notable Ancestors Who Have Left Their Mark on Windsor
Jane’s Walk - One hour guided walking tour
Windsor-Essex Jane's Walk Fundraiser - $25/per person
Saturday, October 17 from 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM
Host: Volunteers from Cemetery Team, Essex Branch, OGS/OA
Do you ever wonder about how some of the streets in the older neighbourhoods of Windsor got their names? What about parks or buildings in the city? Were they named after someone special? What did someone do to warrant such recognition? Do you wonder where some of the old family businesses went? Are there connections when you see the same surname pop up multiple times?
Windsor Grove Cemetery has a history dating back to 1864, and many surnames found within its space may be familiar to Windsorites - streets, parks, buildings. The Cemetery Team of the Essex Branch, Ontario Genealogical Society, has been working here for over 6 years, unearthing and photographing markers, and documenting those interred here in order to assist individuals researching their ancestors. Join us for a walk through Windsor Grove Cemetery, and hear the stories behind notable ancestors who have left their marks on Windsor.
Starting and Ending location:
Just inside the gates of Windsor Grove Cemetery (Giles Street entrance), 455 Giles Blvd., E., Windsor On
