Date: 28th Feb to 9th MarTo experience the starry, limitless sky, and the unbelievable colors that move across the Arctic sky, few places on earth offer more ways to witness the northern lights than Norway. The northern lights activity is peaking this year and next year, expected to reach its highest levels in 11 years.
Day 1: Arrival
You can reach Oslo city by afternoon. Check-in and rest well to overcome the jet lag.
Prepare yourself for an exhilarating tour in the winter wonderland.
Day 2: Bodø
Take a morning flight to Bodø, located just above the Arctic circle, thus a good place to hunt the northern lights. In the afternoon, we can visit the Stormen bibliotek, a large public library with stunning views of the sea.
After dinner, we will travel to a location a few kms away from the city. It will be a tour of approx 4-5 hours with hot chocolate and snacks. We might also come across the reindeers.
Day 3: Bodø to Lofoten
In the morning, we will visit the spectacular Saltstraumen Bridge connecting the islands of Knaplundsøya and Straumøya. It is the location to witness the strongest tidal currents, a constantly- changing rush of whirlpools.
In Afternoon, we will board a Ferry and cross the Norwegian sea to reach Lofoten. The wild, raw nature of the Lofoten Islands provides some of the best chances in the world of seeing the northern lights.
Day 4: Lofoten
In the morning, you will explore Lofoten's most dramatic landscape where the mountains plunge straight into the sea, and small bridges connect the small islands. It is one of Norway’s most photographed areas.
After evening, we will set out for the longest hunt for the northern lights in the wilderness. The locals of the islands are the best guides for the expeditions.
Here, we might also get to see the beautiful Icelandic horses.
Day 5: Lofoten to Narvik
We will catch the early morning bus to Narvik (7 hours). This is one of the most scenic roads of Europe passing through the islands, bridges and mountains of the Nordic region.
Checkin and rest in the afternoon.
In the evening we will board the famed Northern lights train for a tour of 4 hours. It will take you far up in the mountains, away from the bright city lights. The train also stops at the border town of Sweden.
Day 6: Narvikfjellet
In the daytime we can catch the cable car to the top of Narvikfjellet mountain, one of Norway's top ski destinations, surrounded by high mountains, deep valleys, and spectacular fjords. Take a sip of hot coffee while you see the young athletes race down the white slopes.
In the evening we will set out again to chase the northern lights in a remote location away from the city.
Day 7: Oslo City
In the morning, take a flight back to Oslo and explore the capital city
- Akershus Fortress
- Polar Exploration Museum
- National Opera House
Day 8: Bergen line
We will board one of the most famous train journey of Norway i.e. Bergen line. It is a 6 hours ride through the mountains & valleys. We will switch trains at Myrdal to experience the 20km Flam line connecting the mountains & Fjords.
Overnight at Flam or Sogndal village.
Day 9: Sognefjord Cruise
Board a cruise to experience one of the longest & deepest Fjords of Norway i.e. Sognefjord. The boat glides along the tranquil fjord surrounded by towering mountains and quaint villages.
Reach Bergen in noon & rest.
In evening, we can visit Bryggen UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Day 10: Return
Flight from Bergen to Oslo (included)
Return Flight to India from Oslo (on your own)
Bonus: We will taste ‘akvavit’, a traditional Scandinavian flavored spirit, flavored with black cumin.
