We invite you to Imagine Home in the intangible spaces of our dreams and imagination through creative writing, collage, imagery and poetry.
About this Event

We find ourselves displaced from one country to another, we are born here and still don't belong, we may live in unliveable housing conditions, we despair, we fight for our rights, we struggle, we resist stereo types, we inherit stories and burdens from places and dreams before us, we craft in spite of it communities and spaces of belonging and we keep going ... and we need to exhale and pause.

We invite you to Imagine Home in intangible spaces of our dreams and imagination, in tangible places where we walk, gather and live, the houses we left and the homes we made, where we can write and express what home means for us. This is informed by our lived experience, the future we hold for ourselves collectively, as well as here and now. Let us remember home - the one we carry inside.

Event details

Two free pilot sessions facilitated by Akila Richards.

  • Morning session: 11.30 am - 1.30 pm. Specifically for the local Somali community.
  • Evening session: 6 pm - 8 pm. Open to the wider community.

Who is this workshop for?

The morning session is aimed at the local Somali community and the evening session is open to a wider Black, Asian or ethnically diverse/BPOC community.

*BPOC stands for ‘Black people, People of Colour’ and is a self-identifying term. While we use the term BPOC, we acknowledge the limitations of this terminology. At the core of our network is the aim to address and overcome systemic barriers that our members face directly or indirectly based on their ethnic or national identities, race or perceived racial identities, or the colour of their skin as per the Equality Act of 2010. This includes people who identify as Black, brown, people of colour, Global Majority, mixed-race, multiple heritage and/or are from the Global South, and/or are East and South-East Asian, West Asian, Asian, Middle Eastern, African, African-Caribbean, Caribbean, Latinx, Pacific Islander, Indigenous, or First Nations, and diasporas.

You don't need any previous experience to join these workshops.

About No Place Like Home

No Place Like Home centres creative responses to themes of home and childhood home, an emotive subject for the Writing Our Legacy team and the diaspora communities we work with. Since 2013, we’ve invited audiences to participate in free workshops around creative writing with writers.
This workshop is supported by and funded by Arts Council England.

Writing Our Legacy CIC is an arts and heritage organisation that enables Black, Asian and ethnically diverse/BPOC* people to tell their stories through writing and the creative arts. We were established in 2012 and are an Arts Council National Portfolio Organisation 2023-26.
