25th Anniversary Screening! DO YOU WANT TO MEET A GHOST?
In the immense city of Tokyo, the darkness of the afterlife lures some of its inhabitants desperately trying to escape the sadness and isolation of the modern world.
Kurosawa knew. Years before the mainstream acceptance of social media, this film knew that the Information Age was leading us down a path of digital isolation and loneliness. By framing the connection to the supernatural in a hyper-naturalistic fashion despite its technological angle, the film pulls off an unmatched atmosphere that is eerie, and strangely unnerving. PULSE creeps slowly, like a waking nightmare, and is even more relevant now, 25 years after its release. (STEVEN LANDRY)
