Launched by the Institut français in 2016, the Night of Ideas is an event staged simultaneously in Paris, Colombo and worldwide, with the theme “Close(r)” as the common thread. For the 2021 edition, the Embassy of France to Sri Lanka and the Maldives along with its partners decided to engage with the subject of reconciliation, to question our relationship with others under a historical lens. At a time when solidarity is threatened by social distancing, the theme “Reconciliation in practice” invites us to consider the tools available to concretely achieve social inclusion and build understanding and compassionate inter-ethnic relationships. How can you engage with marginalised communities to foster reconciliation? Is there a gap of knowledge between reconciliation theory and practice?
