About this Event
This November, Niaflix presents Black Zombie (2026), a special screening of the documentary written and directed by Maya Annik Bedward.
From the roots of zombie mythology in colonial Haiti to its transformation into a Hollywood horror icon, Black Zombie explores the connections between Haitian Vodou, Black history, slavery, and spiritual resistance. Through archival footage, interviews, and iconic horror films, the documentary reclaims the zombie’s origins and challenges the stories that have shaped how we understand this familiar figure.
Join us for a special screening followed by a talkback with director Maya Annik Bedward, as we explore the history, cultural significance, and stories behind the film.
And at just $5, it’s an easy night out: discover Black cinema, support Toronto filmmakers and experience something you can't quite get from watching at home.
