Generations of Pride is a documentary film exploring the LGBTQI+ history of Newcastle, Australia, as told by those who lived it.
The film chronicles the lived experiences of Newcastle's LGBTQI+ community across generations. From the dark days of discrimination and persecution to moments of resilience, pride, and celebration, it captures raw, honest, and powerful stories that have been passed down through communities, alongside stories being shared publicly for the first time.
While deeply rooted in Newcastle, these local stories reflect experiences shared by LGBTQI+ communities around the world. This is a film for the entire community.
The University of Newcastle Library provided funding to support the production of this important documentary and contributed archival footage, oral histories, photographs, and documentary materials from the Archives and within Living Histories, helping to preserve and share these significant stories.
• Full documentary screening featuring firsthand accounts from community members and their unfiltered stories from those who lived it
• Post-screening Q&A with Director Glenn Dormand and those who shared their stories in the documentary.
"This is more than a documentary - it's our shared history, our collective resilience, and our love letter to the generations who fought so we could dance freely today." - Bernie's Bar
