This Program is a collaboration of the Weequahic Park Association, the New Jersey Performimg Arts Center's artsXchange program, and Five Women Performance Ensemble. It replaces the event originally scheduled for February 2026 but postponed due to inclemet weather. Vocalists who signed up to sing will be invited to perform at this event. We are not accepting any additional individual performers.

Newark Sing In! is a master class and workshop for Newark-based vocalists – an opportunity to come together, share skills, learn new ones and meet new people who are equally enthusiastic about singing.

Newark Sing In! is open to adults 18+ of all cultural backgrounds and various performance levels. Classical, R&B, Jazz and popular music styles will be discussed and performed (with emphasis on jazz). Professional singers from Five Women Performance Ensemble will be on hand to demonstrate and guide participants in group singing, harmony and solo performance. Light refreshments and musical accompaniment provided. FREE FREE on-site parking.

ABOUT FIVE WOMEN PERFORMANCE ENSEMBLE

Five Women Performance Ensemble is a Newark-based collective of women vocalists who are dedicated to the performing arts. The group works with a rotation of performers depending on availability, each of them extremely talented.

In April 2015, five performing artists came together to present an event in celebration of National Poetry Month at the request of the pastor of Focus on Jesus Baptist Church in the South Ward of Newark, NJ. Founder/Artistic Director Celeste A. Bateman went on to develop a series of programs performed at such venues as The Newark Public Library, the Jersey City Free Public Library and Newark Symphony Hall and for a local chapter of the National Council of Negro Women. Performing under the name Five Women, the group presents the works of known and lesser-known women poets, writers, songwriters and playwrights, incorporating poetry, recitations and various genres of music.
