Love romance? Romantasy? Fantasy with a generous helping of romance? Morally grey men, enemies-to-lovers, impossible slow burns, questionable fictional crushes and books you absolutely cannot discuss with everyone in your life?
You might have just found your people.
This is the very first meet-up of a new Oxford-based Romance & Romantasy Book Club — a relaxed, friendly space for readers to meet, make friends and talk very loudly and proudly about the books we love.
And while there will be a monthly book, the idea is for this to become a little more than a traditional book club.
Think Sunday brunch, coffee or drinks, swapping recommendations, talking about your latest obsession, debating favourite tropes, sharing new releases and collectively losing our minds over fictional characters.
As the group grows, I'd love to mix things up too — themed meets, creative activities, bookmark making, bookish crafts and other events alongside our usual monthly catch-ups. Who knows, maybe even bookish retreats.
🌷 Our first meet
Because we're starting from scratch, there's no assigned reading for this one.
Our first Sunday will be about getting to know each other, chatting about what we love to read and deciding together what we want our book club to become.
Bring along a suggestion for our first monthly read and we'll add everyone's choices to the Book Jar before randomly selecting our first official book together.
We'll meet at our Oxford venue where you're welcome to order brunch/lunch, grab a coffee or simply have a drink while we chat.
And afterwards, anyone who fancies carrying on the afternoon can join us for an optional wander around some of Oxford's bookshops — because apparently meeting to talk about all the books we already own isn't enough to stop us buying more.
💕 Who is this for?
This is particularly intended as a welcoming space for anyone who genuinely loves romance, romantasy and fantasy — whether you're an avid reader, getting back into reading, new to the genre or already have an aggressively long TBR.
You don't need to be an expert. You don't need to have read the “right” books. And there is absolutely no judgement about what you enjoy reading.
Smut readers are safe here.
Come on your own — in fact, you're actively encouraged to. The whole point is to meet people who share your interests.
For our first meet, places are free and limited to around 12 people so we can keep it small, relaxed and actually get to know one another. Our venue has options for bigger meetups/events in future if needed.
As places are limited, if you're unable to attend please cancel with plenty of notice to free up spaces for others to attend.
