This course introduces charcoal as a pressure-free and versatile medium for abstract landscape interpretation. Through guided mark-making exercises and tonal exploration, you will learn how to translate the essence of land and atmosphere into bold, expressive imagery.
Working through a series of landscapes with a consistent theme and perspective, you will expand your technical skills while exploring different compositions, contrasts, and focal points in each artwork.
Using charcoal and a variety of drawing tools, you will create mesmerising landscape drawings of distant mountains, misty fields, and mysterious terrains that capture mood, movement, and atmosphere rather than fine detail.
By the end of the course, you will have developed greater confidence in using charcoal to create expressive, evocative landscapes that reflect your own artistic interpretation.
Materials cost approximately $80 and will need to be purchased beforehand and brought along to the class.
This course runs for 1 day x 5 hours.
