Residents and friends and family of the late David 'Boogie' Gonzalez will gather at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 23, outside the 1803 Throop Street building adjacent to Throop Park, for the unveiling of a new mural. The mural, created by Pilsen artist Rufus Linus, honors the street violence intervention worker who died in a 1973 drive-by shooting in nearby Harrison Park.
The unveiling will be followed by an 11 a.m. press conference at which members of the Gonzalez family and Gonzalez Foundation, sponsors of the new mural, will discuss Boogie's legacy, and sign petition to change Throop Playlot to “ Boogie” Park.
