Cut. Paste. Create. Transform forgotten cards into miniature masterpieces.Looking for a creative night out with fellow geeks, gamers, artists, and makers? Join Pens & Pixels Nerd Night Out for an evening of collage art, conversation, and community as we give old game cards a whole new life.
On Friday, November 27 at 7:00 PM, we're taking over the RRCRC incubator13 at the CRC Rideau-Rockcliffe CRC for a hands-on crafting event where imagination is the only rule.
Using old playing cards, Magic: The Gathering cards, Yu-Gi-Oh! cards, and other collectible game cards as canvases, you'll create your own unique pieces of miniature art. Whether you want to make an altered card, design a surreal fantasy scene, create a one-of-a-kind holiday gift, craft a handmade Christmas card, or simply experiment with collage techniques, this event is all about creative play.
We'll provide a wide variety of supplies including:
Card blanks and game cards
Decorative papers and collage materials
Glue, tape, and adhesives
Markers, pens, and coloured pencils
Stickers and embellishments
Scissors and cutting tools
Inspiration examples to get you started
No artistic experience is required. Whether you're a professional illustrator, tabletop gamer, casual crafter, or someone who's never picked up a glue stick since elementary school, you'll find a welcoming space to create, connect, and have fun.
This event is designed as a relaxed social gathering where attendees can:
Meet new people in Ottawa's creative and nerdy communities
Network with artists, designers, gamers, writers, and makers
Learn simple collage and mixed-media techniques
Create personalized gifts and holiday cards
Turn discarded cards into unique collectibles and artwork
Share ideas, inspiration, and fandoms with like-minded people
Food, drinks, and all art supplies are included with admission. Just bring yourself and your imagination.
