About this Event
NEET & Out-of-School Young People's Breakfast Club – Coventry
Helping teenagers and the adults supporting them understand challenges together.
The Autism & ADHD Advocates CIC is introducing a welcoming Breakfast Club for teenagers who are struggling with school attendance, are home educated or are currently NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training).
Held at Stoke Heath Community Centre in Coventry, this informal session offers an opportunity for teenagers to attend with a parent, carer or support worker to enjoy breakfast, connect with others and develop a better understanding of the challenges they may be experiencing.
Who is this session for?
This session is specifically for teenagers who:
- Are struggling to attend school or are currently out of school, including those experiencing emotionally based school non-attendance (EBSNA).
- Are home educated.
- Are NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training).
- Are experiencing challenges with autism, ADHD, anxiety, emotional regulation or executive functioning.
This is a session for teenagers and their accompanying adults, not a younger children's activity or drop-off club.
Understanding challenges together
Many teenagers struggle with anxiety, school attendance, sensory difficulties, emotions, motivation or everyday demands without fully understanding why.
Parents, carers and support workers can also find it difficult to understand what is happening and how best to help.
This session provides an opportunity for both to learn together.
Sarah-Jane McGarry, founder of The Autism & ADHD Advocates CIC and Neurodiversity and Executive Function Specialist, will be available to speak directly with teenagers and their accompanying adults.
Conversations may explore:
- Autism, ADHD and neurodivergence
- Executive functioning, including working memory, inhibitory control and flexible thinking
- Anxiety and school attendance difficulties
- Sensory processing and emotional regulation
- Understanding emotions and alexithymia
- Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA)
- Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD)
- Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
- Confidence, independence and everyday challenges
The aim is to help teenagers better understand their experiences while supporting the adults accompanying them to recognise those challenges and explore practical strategies together.
More than just breakfast
Alongside specialist support, teenagers can enjoy breakfast, meet others with similar experiences and develop social connections in a relaxed, welcoming environment.
There are no formal presentations or expectations to share personal experiences. Everyone can participate at their own pace.
