“Sons que nous Sommes” was founded by Pierre Droeshaut, pianist; Istvàn Droeshaut, violinist; and Piroska Visnyei, soprano. What we share is a history of listening to and loving a wide variety of music, including a broad repertoire of classical, contemporary, experimental, minimalist, postmodern music, as well as French chanson, pop rock, blues, Romani music and jazz.
We improvise open, non-dogmatic, contemporary music — contemporary in the sense that it belongs to today. To improvise without defining a stylistic framework in advance; to explore what our auditory and bodily memories allow to emerge, more or less consciously; to follow these heterogeneous threads, with their countless colours, and weave them together; to observe how a remarkable coherence can arise from the spontaneous assembling of sonic materials from such diverse origins; to play with these elements, set them against one another, make them collide, or simply let them resonate through space...
In art, what matters is finding coherence. In improvisation, without a pre-established plan, this is somewhat like the art of the tightrope walker. Yet we often find our way there through letting go and listening to one another. We enjoy improvising in concert without any prior rehearsal, preparing only mentally and allowing ourselves to discover one another in the moment of encounter. This creates an intensity — and that little thrill of taking a leap into the unknown.

21:00 - 'Initial Conditions' ft. João Lobo (DK/DE)
The ensemble "Initial Conditions" is usually conceived as a septet, bringing together a group of upcoming young musicians from diverse artistic backgrounds. For their concert in Brussels on 16 September 2026, the group appears in a special quartet formation featuring João Gato (Copenhagen), Till Müller (Leipzig), Samuel Dietze (Dresden), Vincent Meissner (Leipzig) and Brussels fixture João Lobo.
The title "Initial Conditions" refers to the unique circumstances that shape each musical encounter, serving as the point of departure from which every sonic development unfolds. At the core of the ensemble's practice is a process-oriented approach to improvisation with a strong emphasis on instant composition. Beginning from open frameworks rather than predetermined forms, the music emerges entirely in real time through collective listening, interaction, transformation and negotiation. Musical events continuously evolve through processes of accumulation, dissolution and reconfiguration, allowing forms to arise organically before dissolving into new constellations.
