Every investor who wants to create positive social or environmental change with their money faces a version of the same question: what is the most useful thing I can do with this capital?
In this month's Insights for Action seminar, join us for the launch of a new Skoll Centre publication 'Navigating Capital Strategies for Impact', an orientation tool for investors seeking to navigate the growing range of strategies for creating social and environmental impact with their capital. Mapping investor intent against three lenses - asset, market, and system - the framework helps foundations, family offices and institutional investors locate their current approach and consider how it might evolve, drawing on real-world examples from pension funds to family offices.
The Skoll Centre's Insights for Action seminar series explores how researchers and practitioners within and beyond Oxford are using research insights to drive social change.
Speakers:
is an independent adviser working with foundations and investors on mission-aligned strategy, impact analysis and systems framing, engaging directly with boards and executive teams on practical implementation alongside her research and writing. She teaches on the Said Business School's Impact Measurement Programme and chairs the Advisory Council for the Impact Performance Reporting Norms. She is a trustee of Access: The Foundation for Social Investment, where she chairs the Endowment Investment Committee.
She was previously Head of Stewardship, Europe at Fidelity International, and has held senior roles at FMO (the Dutch Development Bank), Bridges Fund Management, the World Benchmarking Alliance and the UN-supported Principles for Responsible Investment.
is a Senior Programme Manager at the Impact Investing Institute. She leads the Private Wealth programme, supporting charitable foundations and family offices to develop impact investing practices, the Institute’s pensions work, including its campaign to reform UK pension regulations to clarify the fiduciary duties of trustees, and leads a Community of Practice for strengthening impact in listed markets.
Before joining the Institute, Sophia held policy and research roles in international development and worked at an early‑stage impact EdTech start‑up focused on environmental education. She holds a BA in English Language and Literature from King’s College London and a CFA UK Certificate in Impact and Impact Investing. She sits on the Finance and Investment Committee of Barnwood Trust and has judged the Africa Impact Investing Awards since 2023.
is an impact and sustainable finance leader with more than 20 years of experience helping investors and institutions integrate sustainability and impact into strategy, governance, investment processes, and management practice. She is currently Chief Impact Officer at Fondaction Asset Management, where she helps shape the firm’s approach to ESG, impact, and sustainable finance, with a focus on translating ambition into practical frameworks, effective governance, and decision-useful impact management and measurement.
Belissa has designed and delivered executive education for C-suite leaders and boards across pensions, insurance, investment, and banking. She has also worked with UNDP as an Impact Specialist on the SDG Impact Standards, advising enterprises and financial institutions and leading training and train-the-trainer programmes globally.
Moderator:
is Professor of Organisations and Impact and Academic Director of the Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship. Her research and teaching focus on leadership, social impact, and hybrid organisations. She engages with leaders and organisations worldwide to help them manage competing demands of social impact and financial performance. Marya received a BA in Social Studies, an MA in Sociology, and a PhD in Organisational Behaviour from Harvard University. She also holds an MBA from Stanford University.
