About this Event
Program Details:
Nurture your child’s connection to the natural world through music with immersive music circles themed around local animals, plants and weather! We’ll sing-a-long to your favourite nature songs and adapt a few old favourites to celebrate the herons, turtles, hawks and hummingbirds that call High Park home! Each participant will receive an egg shaker and scarf for playing along and we may even meet some puppets and a parachute along the way!
Songs, music and movement support young children in the development of cognitive, language, motor and social skills. Embedding local nature themed content helps children build a positive and curious relationship with the natural world right outside their doors. Through mimicry, repetition, melody and rhythm, children practice self-regulation skills such as attention and deep breaths while activating their imagination and creativity.
This program is intended for children ages 0-5 and content is tailored for these developmental stages. Children of all ages are welcome to attend and often enjoy participating, particularly if younger siblings or friends are present. Parents, caregivers and family friends are encouraged to fully participate!
Program Cost: $25+HST/family
Meet Your Instructor: Pete Moss
Pete Moss is an acclaimed children's musician who connects people of all ages with the natural world. Drawing inspiration from Eastern North American birds, plants and weather, Pete’s songs inspire empathy, wonder and affection toward living things. Pete's recent performances include Hillside Festival (Guelph, ON), Algonquin Park Visitor Centre and Sappyfest (Sackville, NB).
Pete’s albums Plants Rock (2019) and Birds Rock (2021) are grounded in the principle that building positive relationships between young people and local environments encourages future stewardship. His work aims to shine a light on everyday living things often overlooked in the children’s songbook. Red Winged Blackbirds, Milkweed plants and Juncos are brought to life through joyous, catchy, often emotionally impactful pieces.
As a children’s musician, Pete performs at birthday parties, provincial parks, schools, libraries and music festivals across Ontario. Pete also works as a child and adolescent psychotherapist candidate in his hometown of Toronto.
