What happens when fiddle tunes meet jazz improvisation? The Nashville Trio delivers a sound that feels both familiar and completely unexpected.Eddie Barbash (H.S. Music ’07), known for his work with Cory Wong and Jon Batiste; Jeff Picker, who has performed with Nickel Creek and Ricky Skaggs; and Mark Raudabaugh, a collaborator of Sierra Hull’s, bring together deep experience across genres, blending the spirit of folk, jazz standards and soulful storytelling into a style that is distinctly their own. In their hands, traditional melodies transform while classic jazz is shaped by the textures of Americana and roots music.
The result is a performance that honors tradition while reimagining it in real time, inviting audiences to experience a fresh take on what jazz can be.
The Nashville Trio performance underscores UNCSA’s commitment to the preservation and advancement of bluegrass, folk and other roots music through the American Roots Music Institute.
