Meet new local author Nanci Lagarenne, joining Books Inc. Alameda to read from and share new novel: Mothering Pirates.

She will be joined in conversation with Jessie Leigh Smith journalist with SF Magazine.

About the book: Best friends and roommates, River Grey and Lexington O'Malley of Kinsale , Ireland are at a crossroads. Both women are descendants of two famous female pirates, Anne Bonny and Grace ( Grainne) O' Malley. The day River, an Irish journalist who craves a big change, follows a story that will take her across the sea to the Delta in California, her adventure begins. But where does that leave Lexi? She is lost without her soul mate and her career as an Emergency Room nurse is not enough to get her through her nights. She's hiding something that she knows River couldn't imagine but she can no longer keep to herself.

Enter the quirky characters of Bethel Island, a river town full of secrets. When a popular young waitress at The Rusty Porthole is murdered, five modern day pirates lead the search for her killer, along with a cranky female detective and Delta native, known as Detective Cheese Crisps.

Mothering Pirates is a story of female friendship and love, starting over, and the line between loyalty and how far we will go to protect those we love.

Nanci LaGarenne is an author of five novels. Mothering Pirates is her homage to two of the most famous female pirates in history and a nod to her Irish ancestry. She is a resident of Alameda, by way of Montauk, New York; Brooklyn born and raised. Strong sassy women feature in all her novels and writings. Nanci is a former freelance journalist for Dans Papers on the east end of Long Island, New York. She is at work on a memoir.
