Sam Leigh-Brown is a British singer from Manchester, England. Born into a musical household - a big-band vocalist mother and a saxophonist father - she left England in the late ’80s, guitar-slung and full of adventure, to travel across Europe as a street musician before settling in Germany in the ’90s.
She studied jazz vocals in Arnhem while living in Düsseldorf, later moving to Cologne for several years.
She first came to wider attention as the voice and lyricist of the Frank Popp Ensemble, with whom she recorded three albums, including the 2003 summer hit “Hip Teens Don’t Wear Blue Jeans.” Before that, she fronted the jazz-funk-drum&bass collective N.O.H.A. (Noise of Human Art), writing and singing on three albums for PolyGram.
Sam has also appeared as a guest and studio vocalist with numerous artists and ensembles, among them the United Women’s Orchestra, the HR Big Band, 'Jazz Echo' winner, Angelika Niescier, and multiple albums and tours with German HipHop-Jazz formation "Jazzkantine".
After stepping away from the stage in 2004 to focus on motherhood, she returned in 2012 as a contestant on The Voice of Germany, reaching the Battle Rounds for Team Xavier Naidoo.
Now based in Berlin, she works in TV and film music for “German TV Best Music” award-winning composer Florian van Volxem, lending her voice to a wide range of TV series and film soundtracks. She also toured and recorded with "Moonbootica" as both singer and lyricist.
Today, Sam devotes her energy to her first great love: Jazz, performing hand-picked, intimate concerts that allow space for her warm, unmistakable voice, her arresting presence, and her ever-evolving musical imagination.
