About this Event
Naelbinding with Dr Carey Fleiner
Join us for a fun, in-person session where you'll dive into the ancient art of naelbinding with expert Dr Carey Fleiner.
This day-long workshop is an introduction to naelbinding, a stitching technique that dates back to the pre-historical period. In the morning, we’ll start with a short history of the technique from the earliest evidence through to its survival into 19th and 20th century Scandinavia. Then we’ll have some hands-on experience as you learn how to do some of the basic stitches: basic loop, Coptic stitch, and York (Coppergate). After a short break for lunch, we’ll look at a more advanced stitch (Oslo), and, if time permitting, talk about variations on the Oslo stitch.
Needles and materials are included in the cost of the workshop. No previous experience needed (of any sort of textile work)
