Come learn about the importance and diversity of fungi at two December poster sessions with UW–Madison students from a forest ecology class. The students will share information about fungal diversity and summarize findings from a September mycoblitz at the Arboretum, organized in conjunction with George Meindl, UW–Madison associate teaching professor, and the Madison Mycological Society.📍 Free, no registration required. Meet in the Visitor Center auditorium.
During a September mycoblitz at the Arboretum, UW–Madison forest ecology students and local community members identified and collected data about mushrooms and fungal diversity at the Arboretum. Roughly 70 participants made more than 700 observations and identified over 150 species. On December 1 and 3, the students will hold two poster sessions at the Arboretum to share information about fungal diversity and summarize mycoblitz findings. This collaborative project aims to enhance appreciation for green spaces, fungi, and biodiversity, as well as foster the development of civic and ethical values.
The students are from a fall forest ecology class led by teaching professor George Meindl at UW–Madison. The class is a designated community-based learning course: morgridge.wisc.edu/get-connected-students/community-based-learning/
