More than sixty years after his family fled Communist Cuba in search of freedom and opportunity, Southington resident Jesús "Laz" Montano has published My Cuban American Life, a memoir chronicling one family's journey from Communist Cuba to America—and the enduring values of faith, perseverance, sacrifice, and opportunity that shaped generations. While the memoir follows Montano's own journey—including a successful career as a technology executive with several Fortune 500 financial services companies—it remains, above all, the story of an immigrant family pursuing freedom, opportunity, and the American dream.
Montano and his wife, Debbie, have been active members of the Southington community for more than four decades through volunteer service, community involvement, and participation in their church community. Writing the memoir fulfilled a lifelong goal of preserving his family's history before those memories were lost.
