About this Event
This advanced Musical Improv course focuses on applying the principles of longform improv to musical scenes. You'll learn how to blend your characters' motivations into songs, and make the musical elements of a scene feel like natural progressions of the scene, instead of forced games.
Dates: The class runs Tuesdays, starting 10/20/2026 and running for 6 weeks with a one week break during the week of Thanksgiving.
Instructors: Preston Bradsher and Jonathan Fuller
Preston Bradsher
Preston Bradsher is an actor, dancer, writer, and improvisor who is obsessed with musical improv and is on a mission to take you with her. She has performed improv and sketch at Coalition on teams including From the Top, Project Jane, Riverboat Stranger, and Legs Akimbo. She is a trained musical theater actor (Interlochen Arts Academy, National Theater Institute) and also performs professionally as an actor in Richmond and elsewhere. When not making up musicals for sport, she can be found sewing, playing the banjo, and solving the kinds of puzzles that annoy normal people.
Jonathan Fuller
Jonathan Fuller (he/him) is a improv comedian and musician who has performed with Coalition house teams Silver Child (Harold) and From the Top (long-form musical improv) as well as Indie team Tall Kid Energy. When he's not performing and healing his inner theater kid, he's watching TV or sports, baking, or being an educator, progressive clergyperson, and all around silly goose.
Prerequisites: Improv 201, or equivalent classes at a comparable institution, and some musical theater or musical improv background. Completion of Coalition's 'Short Form Musical Improv' course is not strictly required. Email [email protected] with questions.
Cost: $190 (Early Bird: $170)
The Coalition Theater is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Once classes begin, all sales are final. We understand that unforeseen circumstances may arise that prevent you from attending or completing your registered class. While we do our best to accommodate such situations, refunds are awarded only as credit for a future class or shows and are subject to the discretion of The Coalition Theater management. Requests for refunds will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, and any decisions regarding refunds will be made at the discretion of the theater.
