Our next program, entitled Songs of Love and Faith start with Schwob undergraduate student Olha Kozhushna performing Chopin’s Scherzo No. 2, a piece that, while in essence means “joke,” is actually a tour de force of flash and sizzle. This will be followed by Alfonso Montes’ Suita Latina, four movements of silky music for guitar performed by Schwob student guitarists Dan Holban and Jiujiu Wu. Next is series of three Danish folk pieces arranged for the Læf Saxophone Quartet, under the director of Dr. Joe Girard. Each piece evokes a little of faith and love in gorgeous, but cool, Nordic settings. We’ll conclude this performance with a piano arrangement of Wagner Prelude to Act I of Tristan und Isolde, which has some of the most sumptuous music ever conceived. This will be in the hands of graduate Schwob student Yuxin Pu. Again, designs will be created by Lance Tankserley, director of the Omnisphere Theatre.Reception at 5 pm with wine and cheese, and a 45-minute concert at 5:37pm!
