About this Event
Join us for an afternoon that brings together chamber music and philosophy through the life and work of composer and philosopher Iosif Andriasov (1933–2000).
Presented by Victor Romasevich, a former music student and close friend of Andriasov, the afternoon's program is anchored in Wisdom and Reflection, a book of one hundred quotations from Andriasov's diaries (compiled and edited by his son) on attachment, freedom, and morality. Through reading, discussion, and live performance of Andriasov's music, audiences will encounter a thinker who understood that freedom begins not with power over others but with mastery over oneself.
Victor Romasevich is a violinist, violist, pianist, translator, and former student of composer and philosopher Iosif Andriasov. Over many years, he developed a close friendship with Iosif Andriasov and later with his son, Arshak Andriasov. Mr. Romasevich has played an important role in preserving and promoting Iosif Andriasov's legacy, including assisting with translations of his philosophical aphorisms. Drawing upon personal experience and firsthand knowledge, he offers unique insight into the ideas, character, and artistic vision of one of the twentieth century's most distinctive independent thinkers.
