About The Talk:
“Hidden Symmetries and Motivic Tiling in Renaissance Song from Binchois to Bourgeois” explores previously unrecognized symmetrical and geometric patterns—such as melodic palindromes, mirror motives, and complex retrograde-inversions—in Renaissance polyphony from ca. 1400–1550, arguing that these contrapuntal devices served as foundational building blocks for the development of sixteenth-century pervasive imitation and later melodic traditions.
