I come from Aska, a small town in Odisha.Even as I write this, my own home is under floodwater. My family, childhood friends and so many people I love are facing the same flood.
For years, I have been building temporary worlds for cinema. But somewhere along the way, I began asking myself what I could build that might actually stay, adapt and be useful to people.
That question brought me to bamboo, mud, discarded materials, geodesic structures and countless experiments at Ek Karyashala.
And eventually, to this little patch of forest in Aarey.
EK Viram is not an answer yet.
It is a place where we are trying to learn. Where a crack in the wall becomes a lesson. Where the monsoon becomes a teacher. Where artists, engineers, children, craftspeople and neighbours can sit together and imagine better ways of living.
I cannot stop the flood in Aska from here.
But I can keep learning, building and sharing whatever we discover, hoping that one day some of it may be useful to the communities I come from.
**Perhaps that is where EK Viram really begins.**
