What if you could own a piece of American history? From Revolutionary War documents to letters written by presidents, the artifacts of our nation's past offer a remarkable connection to the people and events that shaped America. But how are these historical treasures discovered? What makes them valuable? And how can anyone begin collecting and preserving pieces of history?
Join us for a special Museum Conversations event featuring museum board member and collector Gretchen Petrakis in conversation with Seth Kaller, nationally recognized rare documents expert, special advisor to the museum, and curator of The Promise of Liberty.
Drawing on extraordinary documents and artifacts featured in the exhibition, Petrakis and Kaller will take audiences inside the fascinating world of historical collecting. Discover what collectors look for, how they establish authenticity and significance, and why collecting is about much more than ownership. It is about safeguarding the tangible evidence of our shared history for future generations.
Whether you're an experienced collector, a passionate history enthusiast, or simply curious about owning something that witnessed history firsthand, this conversation offers a rare opportunity to learn from those who have devoted themselves to preserving America's story.
History is worth remembering. Some pieces are worth holding on to.
